This month I’ve been talking about systems for handling incoming paperwork and email. I mentioned a few ways you can cut down on incoming mail because let’s be honest, we all want to spend more time doing what we love and less time dealing with our stuff.
But how do you know when it’s time to unsubscribe from something that you maybe once loved?
Ask yourself these three questions:
- Does it inspire me? Inspiration can come in the form of a laugh or smile, or it can be a call to act and engage.
- Does it inform me? It should provide at least one helpful tip or useful piece of information every time you receive it.
- Does it align with who I am? The subscription should reflect who you are right now and who you strive to be in the near future. It should serve your current interests, needs, wants and goals.
If the answer is NO to all three, it’s time to unsubscribe!
These questions work for every type of subscription: paper or digital, newsletter or news feed. If you answered no to all of the above and you’re keeping these follows, feeds or subscriptions ‘just in case,’ give yourself permission to let go. Have the courage to unsubscribe and unfollow right now. Trust that after you clear out these distractions, the time, space and information you want to attract will have a place to land.
